Simple tips for healthier, shinier, longer hair
There’s no such thing as too much shine! Most of us want healthy, longer, and shinier hair. There are a few simple things you can do to encourage this, and a lot of it can be done by adding things into your diet. Some foods contain vitamins & minerals required for healthy hair, and if we aren’t getting enough of them, our hair can suffer.
Healthier hair
Healthy hair is what we all strive toward. Having healthy hair promotes growth, strength, and improves texture. Your diet contributes to hair health and sometimes we’re not giving our body enough of the nutrients required for optimal hair health!
Dull hair
Sometimes being deficient in certain vitamins and minerals can contribute to slow hair growth and dull hair. If you’re doing everything in your power to support your hair goals, it might be helpful to see a health professional to check your vitamin and mineral levels. Being deficient in the following can discourage hair health:
- Biotin
- Zinc
- Iodine
- Vitamin C
- Iron
Foods for healthier hair
Foods that are rich in the compound Beta-Carotene are the most beneficial foods for hair health. Beta-Carotene is the compound responsible for keeping your hair cells healthy. The following foods are rich in Beta-Carotene:
- Sweet potatoes
- Carrots
- Spinach
- Kale
- Broccoli
- Peas
Shinier hair
There’s nothing quite like hair with a nice sheen. There are a few things you can do to achieve shiny locks. Start with a hair mask or a hair rinse. One home remedy is to use Apple Cider Vinegar!
What you’ll need:
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- ½ cup Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1 cup warm water
After you’ve shampooed and conditioned your hair, mix the ACV with the water, and pour it over your scalp. Leave it on for 5-10 minutes and then rinse. There’s a science behind this! ACV improves the blood flow to the hair follicles and since ACV is so acidic, it helps to smooth the cuticles of your hair. It’s also anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory which is even more beneficial if you suffer from dandruff!
Another good tip is to put oil through your hair after you wash it. After shampooing and conditioning, towel dry your hair and comb it. Put a couple of drops of hair oil, such as argon oil and rub it on the ends of your hair. Do not put the oil all throughout your hair after washing because it will look greasy.
Another thing you can do is, the night before you wash your hair, cover all your hair with the oil, massaging your scalp. Then pop your hair into a shower cap, leave it overnight and shampoo and condition in the morning.
Longer hair
Longer hair tends to be the goal for most people! Long hair can look beautiful, and it gives you more options when it comes to styling! There are a few things you can do to encourage hair growth.
Haircuts
Don’t be afraid of the scissors! They should be your best friend. Frequently trimming your hair promotes growth because it rids the strands of brittle ends and split ends. Aim to trim your hair at least twice a year, it will also prevent knotting, preventing breakage. Just remember, frequent trimming will lead to faster growth!
