Most gummy supplements on the shelf are made overseas, by a contract manufacturer the brand has never set foot in. Ours are different. Every Haircarebear and Healthcarebear gummy is made right here in Australia, in our own facility in Nowra, on the NSW South Coast. And that facility is licensed by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), Australia's medicines regulator.

That last part matters more than it sounds. Here's what it means, and why it's worth caring about.

Made in Australia, start to finish

We don't outsource our manufacturing or import finished gummies and stick a label on them. We make them ourselves, in-house, which means we control quality at every step, from the raw ingredients to the gummy that lands in your hand. It also makes us one of very few gummy manufacturers in Australia making our gummies locally, in a TGA-licensed facility.

What a TGA-licensed facility actually means

The Therapeutic Goods Administration is the same body that regulates medicines in Australia. To hold a TGA manufacturing licence, a facility has to be audited and meet the TGA's Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standard: documented processes, traceable ingredients, hygiene and testing controls, the lot.

Our facility holds that licence. So whether you're taking an everyday Haircarebear gummy or one from our targeted Healthcarebear range, it's been made somewhere held to that standard. In a category full of imported, hard-to-verify products, that's a real and rare assurance.

Why do some of our products have an "AUST L" number and others don't?

Good question, and the answer is reassuring once you see how it works. Two things often get mixed up:

  • A TGA manufacturing licence is about the facility, the place your gummies are made. It applies to everything we make.
  • An ARTG listing (the "AUST L" number on some products) is about the individual product, and whether its specific ingredients are eligible to be listed as a therapeutic good.

Here's the part that ties them together: a product can only be granted an ARTG listing if it's made in a TGA-licensed facility in the first place. So our licence isn't just a quality tick, it's what makes listing possible at all.

So why isn't everything we make listed? It comes down to what's in each product:

  • Our Healthcarebear range is formulated with ingredients that are eligible for listing, so those products carry an AUST L number.
  • Our Haircarebear range are functional food gummies. They're made with food-style ingredients that can't be listed on the ARTG, so they don't carry an AUST L number.

The thing to take away: whether a product has an AUST L number reflects what kind of product it is and what's in it, not how well it's made. Listed or not, every product is made in the same TGA-licensed facility, to the same standard.

Pectin-based, by design

All our gummies are made on a pectin base rather than gelatin. Pectin comes from fruit, so it's gelatin-free and suits more people, including most vegans and vegetarians. (Where a specific formula contains an animal-derived ingredient, like the marine collagen in our Collagen Gummies, we'll always tell you on the product page.) Getting a pectin gummy right, the texture, the stability, the taste, is harder than using gelatin, and it's something we've spent a long time perfecting.

Two ranges, one standard

We make two ranges under the one roof:

  • Haircarebear, our everyday range of functional food gummies for hair, skin, sleep and general wellbeing.
  • Healthcarebear, our targeted range for specific health needs, including ARTG-listed products formulated to permitted, evidence-based indications.

Different ranges, different purposes, but both made in the same Nowra facility, to the same standard.

Checked at every stage by our teams

Nothing reaches you without being looked over along the way. Our Quality, Innovation and Technical teams assess our products at each stage, from formulation through to the finished gummy, so what's on the label is what's in the jar, batch after batch. It's the kind of oversight you can only really have when you make things yourself.
